Overview
Focus Demolition was engaged by South32 to carry out the demolition of a 10 million litre steel diesel tank at the Worsley Refinery site. The project required both the safe dismantling of significant steel infrastructure and the complete remediation of the surrounding area to prepare the site for future construction works.
The entire demolition and remediation scope was managed and executed by Focus Demolition’s highly skilled project managers and site team. The project was delivered on time and on budget, leaving the site ready for South32’s construction phase.
Process
Steel Tank Demolition and Recycling
Using a 50-tonne excavator equipped with a third member shear attachment, our team dismantled and processed the tank’s steel on-site before transporting it to port for recycling.
Concrete Removal and Processing
Following the tank’s removal, we demolished the concrete ring beam beneath it and the surrounding hardstands within the bunded area. All concrete was processed and sent to a recycling facility to be crushed into road base, supporting sustainable reuse of materials.
Soil Sampling, Testing, and Disposal
Working alongside our Environmental Consultant, we undertook detailed soil sampling and testing for hydrocarbon contamination. Once classified, the affected soil was transported to a Class 3 landfill for safe disposal.
