Overview

Focus Demolition was engaged by Enviro Infrastructure and Main Roads Western Australia to undertake the demolition and disposal of the suspended concrete rail bridge at Bridge 629, spanning the live Arc Rail line on Great Eastern Highway.

The project required meticulous planning and a staged execution strategy to ensure compliance with rail safety regulations, minimise disruption to live rail operations, and maintain the highest standards of worker and public safety.

Our experienced project management team coordinated the works from inception through to delivery, ensuring the demolition was executed efficiently, safely, and within programme requirements.

Process

1

Bridge Preparation and Stabilisation

Temporary sheet work was installed to stabilise the suspended bridge structure prior to demolition. This ensured the safety and integrity of the bridge throughout the dismantling process.

2

Precision Cutting and Sectioning

The concrete bridge deck was diamond-saw cut and core-holed into manageable sections, allowing for controlled lifts while maintaining a safe working radius for crane operations.

3

Staged Crane Lifts

Using a 250-tonne crane, each section of the suspended bridge was lifted in a carefully sequenced operation directly over the live Arc Rail line. This staged approach minimised risk and ensured rail operations were not disrupted.

4

Material Disposal

All bridge sections were safely transported from site and disposed of in accordance with environmental and client requirements.
